Community Rules and Privacy Guidelines

Thank you for being part of the ACFE Community. This is a private members-only network where you can connect with your peers, benefit from their experiences and participate in ongoing conversations with other ACFE members. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, we ask that you read and follow these rules and guidelines for participation, which you will find below. It takes about 5-10 minutes to read them, so take a moment to acquaint yourself before participating in any community discussions. They will help you follow best practices and give you an idea of our shared values.

PLEASE NOTE: By joining and using the ACFE Community, you agree that you have read and will follow the rules and guidelines set forth below.

If you ever need to refer back to these rules and guidelines, they are on the Community’s homepage, located top center for a mobile device and top right for a computer.

Rules

The following types of messages or communications are prohibited in the ACFE Community discussions:

·         Messages in furtherance of any illegal act, including violations of any state or federal criminal or civil laws or regulations

·         Unsolicited commercial advertisements, solicitations or promotions of commercial products or services

·         Threatening or harassing messages

·         Messages that advocate violence or discrimination toward other people

·         Messages that engage in doxing, which is the practice of researching and broadcasting private or personally identifiable information about an individual or organization

·         Messages that represent an attempt to engage in child pornography, stalking, sexual assault, suicide, fraud, trafficking in obscene or stolen material, drug dealing and/or drug abuse, theft or conspiracy to commit any criminal activity

·         Statements that are knowingly false and/or defamatory

·         Messages that encourage or facilitate members to arrive at any agreement that either expressly or impliedly leads to price fixing, a boycott of another's business or other conduct intended to illegally restrict free trade

·         Any communication that violates the stated policies of the ACFE or is deemed by the ACFE, in its sole discretion, to be inappropriate.

·         Messages or content that contain copyrighted material owned by other parties, unless the copyright owner has granted permission to post the content 

 

A violation of these rules may result in restricted access to the ACFE Community, restriction of ACFE member benefits, disciplinary action in accordance with the ACFE Disciplinary Procedures or other action, including but not limited to legal or equitable claims for relief. 


If you are concerned that a colleague’s behavior violates our Community Rules, please flag it using the “Mark As Inappropriate” function. You may also report the issue directly to Courtney Howell at CHowell@ACFE.com.

Guidelines 

Please remember.

  1. Community members come from all over the world, which means our online cultures and practices may vary. Please review the ACFE’s Statement of Diversity and Inclusion to understand how we can be respectful and mindful of differences.
  2. Community members are in different stages of their professional journeys. Avoid patronizing or disparaging remarks about another member’s knowledge base or experience when responding to discussions.
  3. As members of a collective community, we get out what we put in. If you comment and participate on other people’s discussions, they are more likely to comment and participate on your contributions and questions.

Filling Out Your Profile

 

We encourage you to include a photo and a bio in your profile. This increases trust among members and also inspires more valuable connections in the community as a whole.

 

  1. The first step to take when completing your profile is to upload a photo. The easiest way to do this is to import it from LinkedIn. You can also upload a personal photo from your device. We understand that some members may want to avoid sharing a personal photo. If this is the case, please visit our folder in the General Forum Library titled “Community Rules and Guidelines.” Inside this folder, you’ll find several versions of non-identifying profile images to choose from — female, male and non-gendered.
  2. The next thing you can do is complete your bio. Importing a bio from LinkedIn is a quick one-step process (as long as your LinkedIn bio is up to date). Or you can write your own. If you’ve never written a bio, some great information to include could be your current job title, your current employer, how long you’ve been interested or employed in the anti-fraud profession and any fun facts about yourself. Again, we realize that some of this info may be sensitive, so include as much or as little as you are comfortable with sharing.
  3. If you want to go the extra mile, including a job code and industry code can help other members quickly identify your area of expertise.

Posting in the ACFE Community

 

Helpful Terms

 

Community: This refers to the ACFE Community overall and also to the smaller communities within — like the General Forum community, the CFE Exam Preparation community, or the 90-Day CFE Exam Challenge community. For clarity, the Community Manager will use a capital “C” to indicate the overall Community and a lower case “c” when referring to one or several of the smaller communities.

 

Thread: This term refers to a discussion and all of its replies. Each community is made up of several threads, and each thread has its own unique link that you can use to navigate through the community it belongs to. 

Discussion: This is the first post in a thread. It’s how members introduce unique topics to the communities.

Reply: This is a post that members make on an existing discussion. You can either reply to the discussion or you can reply to a previous reply. For more lengthy and complicated threads, replying to a specific reply is helpful so that a thread stays organized and easy to follow.

Subject: This is the title for each new discussion that a member shares. The more unique and attention-grabbing your subject is, the more your fellow members will be enticed to click on your discussion and engage.

Participating in Discussions

 

  1. We know that jumping into a new community like this one (more than 80,000 members) can be intimidating and a bit overwhelming. If you’re not sure where to start, we recommend taking a moment to read through a few threads to observe how your fellow members interact and engage. This will give you a great idea of how things work so that when you decide to contribute your own valuable thoughts and expertise, you can do so with confidence.
  2. Before you decide to post a new discussion, use the Community’s search function to see if anyone has already provided the information you’re looking for. If you’re on the mobile site (smartphone or tablet), the search bar is located in the top-right drop-down menu. If you’re using a computer, it’s located on the top right of your screen just below your profile photo. Type any phrase or term relevant to the information you want. You may have to get creative and do multiple searches before you find what you need, but there is a lot of great info out there already.
  3. When you’re ready to share a new discussion, you’ll first need to come up with a great subject. A good way to do this is to think about what you would look for if you were going to do a search in Google. The more specific the better. So instead of titling your discussion “Data Analytics Question,” try something like “What are your 3 favorite data sets to track at the beginning of an investigation?” 
  4. If you disagree with what someone has shared, don’t attack. If you take a look at our Shared Community Values, you’ll see our aim is to create an environment that fosters genuine care and helpfulness among members. That’s not to say there won’t be disagreements. In fact, disagreements are great for stimulating fruitful conversations. All we ask is that members refrain from making personal attacks or belittling their colleagues. This includes but is not limited to name calling, threatening language, mobbing, stalking, discriminatory statements and harassment. Keep in mind that this applies to both public and private communications within the ACFE Community.
  5. PLEASE NOTE: If you are concerned that a colleague’s behavior violates our Community Guidelines, please report the issue to Courtney Howell at CHowell@ACFE.com. You can also flag a post by using the “Mark As Inappropriate” function. This will move it into a moderation queue.

  6. When you want to acknowledge what someone has shared but don’t have anything of substance to add to the discussion, you can use the “like” button (located in the title bar of each post in a thread) to indicate your approval of a post, or you can send a private reply letting them know you appreciate their contribution. This shows that you appreciate the time they’ve given and the expertise they’ve shared without cluttering the main discussion.
  7. Please avoid posting administrative messages. For instance, instead of saying “Remove me from this list,” you can change your settings or remove yourself. If you’re ever unsure of how to perform a technical or administrative task, you can reach out to Courtney Howell in a private message or via email at CHowell@ACFE.com and she will walk you through it.
  8. Use caution when discussing people, products, companies, institutions and organizations. Keep in mind that information posted on the threads and in the libraries is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander and anti-trust laws.
  9. No spamming please. Post your message or documents to the most appropriate threads or libraries once. Do not spam several lists or libraries with the same message. Our goal here is to ensure that each message and document adds to the overall body of knowledge.
  10. Please do not use the ACFE Community as a way to organize and form groups outside of our communities. 
  11. Ensure you’re posting to the right community. Our two main communities are the General Forum and the CFE Exam Preparation. If you have questions about the CFE Exam, want advice on how to take the exam or simply want to celebrate a recent success related to the exam, post your discussion in the CFE Exam Preparation community. Keeping our posts organized this way helps you and your fellow members navigate through the content much more efficiently. Any CFE Exam posts in the General Forum will be subject to moderation.

PLEASE NOTE: Discussions, replies and documents that violate our guidelines may be removed or otherwise moderated without notice. If you have concerns that something you shared has been incorrectly moderated, please reach out to Courtney Howell in a private message or via email at CHowell@ACFE.com and she will address your concerns. 

As our Community grows and evolves, we will update these Rules and Guidelines accordingly. Each time they are updated, we will notify our members by creating a discussion in the General Forum to announce the changes.
